Our wood shutters are 100% handcrafted. They take longer to make (up to six weeks) but the wait is worth it. For the painted wood shutter it has four layers of furniture quality paint in numerous colors. The stains are rich and designed to pull out the grains, knots and imperfections that make this a classic.
Louver sizes can vary but the most popular for the wood shutter is the 3 1/2" slat. This is the traditional sized louver for plantation shutters and will work with most window applications. The 2 1/2" louver is the second most popular. It is used for smaller window openings. You can mix and match both (even in the same room). They blend together perfectly.
The traditional plantation wood shutter also comes with a frame to surround the panels (doors). If you have a drywall surrounded opening with a window sill, the Z-frame is the most popular choice. The Z-frame has a two inch or larger lip that goes around the edge of the opening. Kind of like a picture frame. It gives the window a complete look. Best of all, it serves as a imperfection hider. You typically do not need to caulk. The Z hides it all.
The L-frame is the same type of frame but it doesn't have a lip. These are required for outside the window openings but are also popular for windows that already have a nice trim surrounding the opening. This typically does need some caulking but do not worry. This is easy to do.
When it comes to installation of a wood shutter, it is easy. Everything is assembled except the frame. The frame is thin and could break in shipping. Once the frame is installed squarely in the window, it is as simple as putting the door on the pre-installed hinges. You may need to finish up with some caulking if you have some small light gaps. We can line up installers if you need them but if you can put together one of those assemble by instructions computer desks then you can do this. It is easier.
