Sunscreen Shades | Solar Shades
Sunscreen Shades or Solar Shades are roller shades featuring a see-through material that blocks UV rays and the outside elements while maintaining a view.
Besides size and color, openness is the main factor in determining which solar shade is right for you. The higher the openness factor, the better the view out of the sun shades; but the more the UV rays and heat/cold can penetrate through the window. For most homes, a 5%-10% factor is the most common openness chosen for the solar shades. A heavy duty operation system comes standard.
Solar Shades or Sunscreen Window Shades operate exactly like the standard Roller Shade. The difference is in the mesh, see-through fabric. It is designed to block out the elements, eliminate UV Rays that might damage furniture and maintain a view. There are many elements to consider when determining what type of Sunscreen/Solar Window Shade to purchase but the main factor is the openness of the shade. The lower the openness percentage, the less transparent the shade will be. Solar Shades and Sunscreen Shades are generally not the best option when privacy is a must.
Remember, for ALL roller blinds (sheers, roller shades, solar blinds or any blind that rolls up), the fabric is narrower than the roller. Why is this? This is because the fabric has to roll on a tube. There is no place to put the mechanisms except at the ends of the roller. That's why the blind itself is actually wider than the fabric. It is industry standard to take the entire blind into consideration when making it. For rollers, this includes the mechanisms. The gap between the mechanisms and the fabric itself can be up to 1 1/2". Although this is not a large gap for most customers, it is worthwhile to mention it here. For inside the window mounts this is not optional, so we encourage you to decide if the roller shade is the right window treatment for you. For outside the window, you do have a choice. You can ADD to the width of the roller to make the fabric any size you want. For example, if you need your fabric to be 35 inches wide, simply add 1 1/2" to the width when you place your order. This includes the mechanisms and makes your fabric exactly at 35". If you have any more questions, please call our Customer Support line.
In summary, for inside the window applications (inside mount), you are going to have about a 3/4" sized gap on both of the sides. This is not optional. For outside the window measurements, add to the width of the blind if you need your fabric to be a certain width (1 1/2" wider is usually enough). Once again, please call us if you need help!
