Inside MountThe blind is mounted inside the window frame; offers a tailored look, emphasizing the actual size of the window. Any deductions will be made by the manufacturer. Window casing should at least meet the minimum depth required to accommodate the brackets, or the flush mount depth to have the headrail fully recessed in the casing. When selecting your size, enter the actual dimensions of your window casing. |
|
![]() |
Outside MountThe blind is mounted on the wall or molding outside the window frame to cover an area larger than the window itself. Outside mounted blinds are required if the window casing is not deep enough to accommodate the mounting brackets for an inside mount. When selecting your size, enter the desired size of the blind itself - at least 1 1/2" of overlap on each side is recommended. |
|

Z-FrameThe Z-Frame has a lip that goes around the opening. Not only does it finish out the opening like a window frame, it hides any imperfections in your window. These work best with straight dry wall openings and at least 2 1/2" or more of depth in the opening. |
|

L FrameThe L frame is a simple frame that is mounted to the side of your opening (inside the window) or it is required on the edge of the opening for outside mount (out side the window). These work best for window openings that have an existing trim and this is required for all over the opening mounts. Some caulking can be necessary. |

Divider RailThe divider is used primarily for stability of the panel and is required for shutters over 60" tall. You have a choice where you want it. Most choose to put it directly in the center of the shutter. Simply select the centered option in your cart. You can also put them in any location. Use this if there is something you would like to hide behind the divider rail such as your window lock. To measure, simply run your measure up from the bottom to where you want the divider. We will try to make the divider half way higher and lower than that measurement but it could vary up to 1" in order to keep the louver count consistent on the top and bottom. |

Louver SizeMost of our shutters come in the traditional 3 1/2" Louver or the smaller 2 1/2" Louver. The larger size works best on large windows and the small louver on medium to smaller sized windows. |

Window SillWe ask if you have a window sill because it determines on how we make the bottom rail. Notice on the picture that the Z-frame would never go on the bottom because the window sill protrudes into the room. So, we simply make the bottom rail flat to sit right on the sill. It stabilizes the shutter and serves as a nice light stop. |

Single PanelImagine a panel as being a door. You need to have a hinge in order for it to open and close. For a single panel, choose if you want the hinges on the left or on the right of your panel. |
|

Double Panel (2 Panels)These are two doors butted together. One opens to the left and the other to the right. |
|
![]() |
4 Panel (Bi-Fold)These have 4 doors. Two of them hinge together and go to the left and the other two to the right. This is popular for large windows. |

Hidden Tilt BarA new and common option is the hidden tilt bar. It makes the shutter look more contemporary and gives a better view. This option is available with a surcharge so call for pricing. |

One can use Fauxwood Plantation Shutters both indoors and outdoors. These shutters are not only durable but they are waterproof as well, so they are ideal for spaces in which they may be subject to some abuse such as in garages and childrens rooms. The solid vinyl construction makes them durable but warm and cozy as well. They are available in four colors including almond, ivory, sandstone and white, which give the composite wood the warm painted feel. A free sample can help the buyer determine which color is just right for his or her needs.
These shutters have a variety of options in terms of the hardware needed to mount and install them. There are many options with the divider rails, hidden tilt bars, inside and outside mounts, L and Z frames, louver sizes, window sills and single, double or four panels. One should also check with the specifications or dimensions of each of these options to determine which will best work with the designated space. Checking with the image gallery can also help one determine what type of shutters are best for his or her individual window treatments.

Comments about Fauxwood Plantation Shutters:
The hardest part of installation is unpacking. The items are packaged to survive just about anything.
We went with the outside mount to compensate for any irregularities (out of square) in the windows, and to match the width of the window sills.
Matching the width of the window sills required slightly oversizing the shutters. The personnel at the factory were very helpful in providing me the necessary dimensions to make sure the louvers would clear the window openings after oversizing the frames (approx 1/2" overall in my case). The result is a totally custom look.
As far as installation, I assmbled each unit (top and bottom hinge pins) and rested it on the high side of the sill (which was the case in 3 of the 7 windows. I then raised the low side to the point that the tops of the two panels were level and marked the wall. I then removed the panels and installed the frame. This may sound time/consuming but it's not. The panels are light and easy to work with. On the three windows that had minor gaps between the frame and the sill, I filled in with a little caulk.
The difference these made in the look of each room is subtle, but unmistakable.

Comments about Fauxwood Plantation Shutters:
Great product. It was easy to order and arrived on time. The packaging was excellent. Assembly and installation was easy. The only reason it didn't get a 5 was because of the recommended glue, Super Bonder 414. There is only one place in Idaho where it is sold and it is 250 miles away. If that gluse is critical, put it in the box and charge me $5 more. I ended up using contact cement.

Comments about Fauxwood Plantation Shutters:
Although this was a relatively small blind for a bathroom window, I set aside a few hours to install. I ended up with more than an hour and a half to spare!
