Upgrading your home with window shutters is an excellent thing you can do to your home. This can be counted as investment and if you are selling your house it could definitely add to the value!
You won’t have to change them or even get ripped off buying a weak shutter, by following a set of guidelines to help you choose the right one.

Why do want them?

You need to first of all decide why you want window shutters, apart from the beauty and decor factor of course! You need to decide and plan based on the climatic conditions you are living in, location and in which parts of the house you are thinking to fix. There are specialised shutters designed for protection from storm, insulating shutters, elliptical shutters which are slightly curved and have blunted ends and works best if you are regularly going to open and close the movable planks. Fixed louvers are used mostly in closets or even room dividers.

Not red, blue or green!

It is best to go with neutral colours like white or any pale colour or our always-in-style wood finish. These colours would usually go well with most decors and you won’t have to change nor repaint every time to suit your interiors.

Durability vs. splendour

Though wooden shutters give that rustic and exemplary look, you should research a little before deciding on the type of wood you want in your home. The best choice of durable wood is usually Cedar wood or even Polywood which ensure durability. Wooden shutters may need polishing or repainting once in a while, and could be an advantage if you are changing your decor. If you are hell bent on choosing wooden shutters, then don’t crunch up your budget on that one.

Vinyl shutters on the other hand last much longer and are easier to maintain than wooden ones, not to mention the cash you save!

Wider Slat Spacing- Starting April 1st
The unique PVC-free formulation of the Everwoods and Everwood X-tra slat allows Hunter Douglas to offer wider expanses between ladders; in fact, the widest in the industry. On April 1st, 2008, they will be moving to a wider 18″ tape spacing on the Everwood products (currently 16″), which is a tribute to the exceptional slat stability they have acheived. Some of the changes on that we are doing in order to get to the point of a new updated page design are: Remove all I-Frames from site, convert all HTM pages to asp format, adding updated metas to the backend. We are negotiating samples from Hunter Douglas who now wants to charge $5 per customer for samples. We want to keep that service free.

Above order for s/m: LUCAS PO: 7496- This order is on backorder due to fabric various in color at the edges. Per factory manager who has spoken with HD said this is acceptable fabric which is natural characteristic of the fabric. So I’m telling all of this because GCWC is making your blind with the suspect color that HD deemed acceptable I have attached a bulletin provide by HD on this issue.
Dear Hunter Douglas Fabricators:
You and we have seen delays in receiving fabric and finished shades due to the tremendous increase in volume in our woven wood line. However, another issue, perceived quality, also adds to the delays and customer dissatisfaction through remakes and returns.
We have attached a copy of our Provenance Woven Wood Information Sheet to help clarify points such as:
Why perfect alignment of slats or reeds is rarely possible. (Reason: Loose weaves, thinner/thicker reeds and bamboo, necessary tolerances between rows of different construction, such as, braids and reeds)
Why color variation can exist. (Reason: Grasses can vary in color within each stalk; stained wood can vary by piece)
Why some stretching can occur. (Reason: When weaving various thickness for wood, reeds, and grasses together some looseness occurs; this can lead to minor stretching)
The above points and on the attached sheet need to be explained to customer service personnel, dealers, and ultimately to consumers. Then, customers who fall in love with and order our Provenance Woven Woods will understand that the beauty of Nature is in its imperfections.
My opinion, basically, this product is natural and can’t be made perfectly. Colors and weaves can and will change from blind to blind. Shades Shutters Blinds nor our suppliers will warrant this product due to this. If you want to guarantee the same batch, please order all woven woods at the same time.
