Faux wood window treatments are the most popular type of horizontal blind sold in todays window coverings market. There are 2 main types of faux wood blinds out there. First is the one hundred percent PVC blind (vinyl) and the very popular composite blinds.
The one hundred percent faux wood blinds is made of pure polymers (vinyl). They come several slat styles including the one inch slat, two inch slats (most popular), the 2 half inch slat and finally, the three inch slat materials. There have been many changes have been perfected in the last ten years. Some of the examples of the new changes are: longer life against discoloration, and warpage. Vinyl faux wood blind is heavier than most other blinds and requires more strings to pull the shade up and down.
The composite faux wood window coverings are a relatively new blind product on the market. These new faux wood blinds are made of a wood and vinyl mixture. These are totally recyclable and much, much lighter than the one hundred percent vinyl (PVC) faux wood blinds. The new composites blinds will typically last longer but are typically more expensive than their counter parts one hundred percent faux wood blind.

The Roman style blinds and shades are a thick piece of fabric that operates down and up while and the fabric stacks up to the top of the window opening. Romans have become very popular in the window covering industry over the last several years because the cost has gone way down and production have been stepped up. Most roman shades used to be home made with single fabric bought at a fabric store. Today, you can pick the fabric you prefer from sample books and the production is made at the production plant. This saves you time and most of all, money.
There are many options with roman shades that are not applicable with the homemade style. The first unique feature is the top down, bottom up option. This will allow the operator to drop the blind from the top and you can also lift it like normal. Secondly, is motorization (motorized). The infrared and radio technology prices have dropped significantly over the last few years making it very affordable for the average person. Lastly, it the teardrop or hobbled roman shades. They are folded in a teardrop shape looking much more formal.

Bamboo blind are roman roll up shades that are made of or grasses and bamboo. Bamboo shades have become very stylish over the last couple of years mainly because of pricing and quality.
Bamboo shades are now much nicer and are not necessarily made of total bamboo. Every blind is unique in workman ship. Most bamboo shades are made with grasses and bamboo combined and some are made with different types of sticks and bamboo material.
What is nice about bamboo shades is that it is very friendly to the environment. All mechanisms of this blind are made from natural materials including the optional backing made of cotton that can protect the blind. This makes the shades recyclable and long lasting. The average shade can last from five to twenty five years.

American blinds are made right here in the USA. Most of the components in today’s blinds are made in foreign countries. The reason is because of price. The main exception is the Wooden Shutters and wood blinds which are made of North American hardwoods. Some do not like the fact that these are made over seas.
The good news is that people expect American Blinds to be ready for installation in just a few days if made from scratch. That is why around 90% of all window coverings are manufactured in the Untied States from many different fabricators.
This trend for American blinds does not look like it will change soon. Foreign blinds (like the cut down ones at the big box stores) cannot be custom made to the nearest 1/8” of an inch like all american blinds.

Bamboo blinds have to be the most eco friendly of all of our products. They are usually hand made with one of the most renewable resources out there. Bamboo is the fastest growing grass and comes in tons of colors and thicknesses. Most of our bamboo or woven wood blinds are hand made in China or Mexico. For the ones made in China, the fabric is hand sewn there and the blind is assembled here in the United States. For the bamboo blinds made in Mexico, they are all hand made from scratch. Although more expensive, you can tell by the quality and small imperfections that they were made with great care. Except for a few operating parts on the blind (so it will last), all bamboo shades are made from natural and renewable materials.
Some of the grasses are looser on the bamboo blinds while others are tighter strung so energy efficiency can vary greatly depending on the style. All pricing is also based on the style of the weaves. The more integrate, the more expensive. All bamboo blinds are available with an optional 100% cotton backing that is energy efficient and protects the blind. Bamboo blinds with cotton backing can last up to 25 years.
Bamboo blinds have come a long way since the 1970’s. They no longer have just the “jungle look” but can fit any modern décor. Check out our website to see the hundreds of colors, styles and weaves of the most eco friendly blinds on the market today.

Mini blinds have been around since the 1970’s. They are made of aluminum and are recyclable. Each slat is one inch across and is horizontal on the blind. There are several thicknesses that are available for added energy efficiency. The three main thicknesses are based on the gauge of the slat. The standard in the mini blind industry is a 6-gauge slat, which has an R-value of around a 3.51. The R-value is simply the measurements of a mini blinds ability to keep the heat in and the cold out. An R-value of a 4.00 blocks around 75% of the heat loss through a single pane window*1. The six-gauge slat materials are the most affordable and the least energy efficient. All components are typically made from recycled aluminum.
