Even though the Silhouette and Nantucket look delicate, these window shadings are quite durable. You should be careful, but not afraid. Here’s how to make a clean sweep of things.

First, dust occasionally with a feather duster. If you have access to one of those compressed air cleaners (used for computer keyboards), that is a great way to clear the dust away between the vanes. A low suction, hand held vacuum is a little more powerful and great for a more thorough dust removal. For those hard to remove stains, a professional blind cleaner can use an ultrasonic or other extraction methods to take those out. Look under “blind cleaners” in the yellow pages.

A few things to avoid are: If the Silhouette or Nantucket is the Bon Soir or Misty Harbour, do not send them to a professional blind cleaner using an ultrasonic machine. You will ruin them.
