I picked up the paper Sunday and saw a very nice color ad from Lowes™. It was for a Faux Wood 2″ blind at 31″ x 64″. The price was just incredible. Much lower than ours or anybody else’s that I am aware of. I know Lowes™ does some massive buying and times are definitely tough but 10% below our actual cost? So I went down to the store to check it out myself and here is what I found: These are pre-made blinds in certain widths and heights. If your window is not that actual width, Lowes™ has this cut down machine there that will cut the width for you to your size. For the length, you will have to do that yourself. The quality of the blind was very flimsy with a super light head rail, a very generic valance and the slat material was weak. I guess it is good for laundry rooms, apts etc but for your entire house, it is only going last a couple of years and is definitely a temporary fix. Pay a little more and get it done right the first time. For a few extra bucks, you get a true custom made blind, it has a lifetime warranty against discoloration or warpage and the quality is literally five times as good. I then did some comparison shopping on the truly custom made one that they also offered in the ad. For a 31″ x 64″ Roman shade made by a national brand name, the cost was $211 verses ours at $164. As you can tell, for high quality, custom made blinds, the internet is the place to shop if you can measure and hang yourself. Just my 2 cents:)

Prestige Blinds has been having some back order issues and I finally managed to get a full list. It looks long but it isn’t that much out of the thousands of colors and fabrics they provide. First type, color name and then material arrival time. Hope this helps and if you are on this list, we will do whatever you want and we totally understand.

Faux wood window treatments are the most popular type of horizontal blind sold in todays window coverings market. There are 2 main types of faux wood blinds out there. First is the one hundred percent PVC blind (vinyl) and the very popular composite blinds.

The one hundred percent faux wood blinds is made of pure polymers (vinyl). They come several slat styles including the one inch slat, two inch slats (most popular), the 2 half inch slat and finally, the three inch slat materials. There have been many changes have been perfected in the last ten years. Some of the examples of the new changes are: longer life against discoloration, and warpage. Vinyl faux wood blind is heavier than most other blinds and requires more strings to pull the shade up and down.

The composite faux wood window coverings are a relatively new blind product on the market. These new faux wood blinds are made of a wood and vinyl mixture. These are totally recyclable and much, much lighter than the one hundred percent vinyl (PVC) faux wood blinds. The new composites blinds will typically last longer but are typically more expensive than their counter parts one hundred percent faux wood blind.

Some of the changes on that we are doing in order to get to the point of a new updated page design are: Remove all I-Frames from site, convert all HTM pages to asp format, adding updated metas to the backend. Adding room locations on shopping cart, and updating pricing (two suppliers have recently increased pricing). We are negotiating samples from Hunter Douglas who now wants to charge $5 per customer for samples. We want to keep that service free.
