I am through with the order of window blinds for the entire house and I guess while I am at it, I might as well change the window coverings of the garden room and pool house as well. I haven’t heard from Ms Pesky-Talkathon for the third day today which is really surprising. But she’s kept me busy with my Mission Window-Bolster these two days.

I think the sunscreen roller shades are ideal for outdoor window coverings. They’re made of the same kind of durable material that is used in outdoor furniture, are thicker and allow a choice of ‘openness’ in the slats. There’s a whole new silver series with aluminum backing in the market but I will let that pass for now. What I like most about them is that they’re energy efficient. Using sunscreen roller shades for outdoors should be fine as no one can see inside during the day but I can keep a watch during the evening and late evening when the kids are playing there. The head-rail is going to be wider than the fabric but then I do need sturdier window coverings in the garden and pool room. Since these shades also block out ultra violet rays I can do some writing during the afternoon by the pool.

The designer sunscreen roller shades also come with cassette valance and in a range of over 100 colors. I am planning to stick to the natural greens and browns for now considering that I have indulged myself while choosing blinds for the windows in the house.

And, I better check on Ms Pesky too. She’s gone missing. Very, very strange and unlike her.

P.S. This is a post-script I decided to write two hours later after all my orders were placed. I did go down to check on Ms Pesky. Am very depressed. She greeted me at the door and showed me around her house. She’s gone and replaced all her window coverings with snazzy shutters and blinds – those that came with self-installable features. That’s why she was missing for two days. Damn!

My woes began last Monday. Mrs Pesky-Talkathon moved in next-door. And, if you think that’s a rather rude name, you better meet her yourself. You will award me the Ms Polite Trophy immediately. She cannot fathom when someone is resting and wants no company. She cannot fathom that if you are locked up in your house, with the curtains drawn, neither are you gay nor are you indulging in ‘unspoken’ activities. She simply walks down to the back of the house, draws the curtains apart and peers in as if she’s staring right into your soul. Ah! Curtains. That’s it.

I have a good mind to get window shutters. Every single curtain in the house is going to be replaced by a shutter! In any case I am charmed by those latest honeycomb shades. There are the single-light filter ones that can go on the front windows of the living room. And, the double cellular blinds that can go on kitchen and morning room windows. I will just have to match the colors with the room décor though. But the catalog I received the other day had them in over 100 colors so that should not be a problem. Most of them keep 80 per cent of the light out and can be operated easily. I think I will go for the cordless ones instead of the continuous cord loop ones. So much for Madame Nasty. I wouldn’t mind using a blackout cellular shade – that guarantees complete blackout – on her mouth as well.

I will check the different pleat sizes later. These blinds, I have heard, have cells butted together so that the bee-hive-like structure gives super energy efficiency. Maybe I should jazz up the living room in any case – Ms Neighbor or no Ms Neighbor – what with blinds coming in some great designer motifs and patterns. I could give the whole house a new ‘Green’ or ‘New Age’ look with a single-theme set of blinds. Am truly tempted by those new shutters with blackout colors and snazzy light-filtering patterns. Perfect for setting up a cosy room for a snooze during the day. And, vertical cellular blinds will do fine for the sliding glass doors leading to the garden from the kitchen. Enough for keeping Ms Pesky-Talkathon out. Will keep you updated.

Faux wood blinds

I’ve been in a rush today trying to order window blinds and shutters for the entire house but I think I should pause a bit. After all, it’s my house and why should I be forced into taking a decision in haste. Yes, one of the reasons is to keep Ms Pesky-Talkathon out.

Gone are the days when you just ordered any cloth to keep daylight out. Considering that the living room décor is in wood, the natural wood grain-look of these faux wood blinds should be ideal. Possibly I will order a sample first. The PVC slats are easy to clean as well. Haven’t heard from Ms Pesky-Talkathon either unless I missed her peeping in while taking measurements for the blinds!
