This is particularly true for energy costs. Not only is energy incredibly costly, but its consumption also contributes to the growing environmental crisis. One way to protect the earth and save money is to use energy efficient blinds and shades. The following is a list of some the Most energy efficient blinds & shades.

Cellular Shades

Cellular shades are often called honeycomb shades as they are made with two pieces of fabric designed in a unique honeycomb shaped cell pattern. These shades work by trapping a layer of air inside the cells that works to insulate rooms. In the summer, the light is filtered so that solar energy does not overheat the space. During the winter, the shades can prevent heat from escaping out the windows, and eliminate cold airflow from coming in. They work extremely well when mounted inside a window frame, and so they are an appealing option for skylights and box frame windows. Furthermore, because cellular shades can be made in a wide array of fabrics, they can be customized to match the design and decor of any room. They work extremely well when mounted inside a window frame, and so they are an appealing option for skylights and box frame windows.

Solar Shades

These types of shades are made from a revolutionary solar mesh fabric, and are often called solar screens. Solar shades work by blocking solar heat and energy as well as harmful UV rays. They can dramatically cool down a space in the summer time, resulting in huge savings on air conditioning bills. During the winter they also work to reduce the frigid wind chill factor on windows, thus saving valuable money on extra heating costs. The screens come in a variety of colors, and as they are see-through, they allow for maximum visibility along with huge energy savings.

Plantation Shutters

Plantation shutters are the most common type of energy efficient blinds. Their strong wooden or vinyl structure, and slatted design allow for a free flow of air in warm weather, or shade if the incoming sunlight gets too hot. They can also be closed in the winter to prevent heat loss. As they can be ordered in a variety of colors and materials, they are not only stylish, but also incredibly versatile.

With these energy efficient blinds and shades, heating and cooling costs can be reduced, and users can rest assured that they are doing their part for the environment.

A wood blind is a material that screens or covers the window from heat and light. There are a lot of different types of a window blinds that are available in the market in the present day. Each wood blind is created by using different kinds of materials and systems. A common type of a window blind is usually made by the use of metal, plastic, wood and fabric. This type of blind can be adjusted by rotating a manipulator, allowing the pieces to overlap. However, there are also different types of window blinds that are created with the use of just a single piece of a raw material to create a unique and very simple design. These window blinds are very useful, they are very easy to use and can be easily maintained.

Wood Blinds Faux is a substitute of a real wood blind. It is made from natural and man-made materials such as PVC composite material. Compared to the real wood blinds, they can live long with humidity and does not warp, sag and fade easily. They are also easy to clean by using a damp cloth and let it dry over time.

A window blind that is made from a real wood is much expensive than an alternative. These products became very popular, that a lot of homeowners are using it. Because of the growing population of window blinds, some products became less expensive and very versatile with a real wood visual perception. These products have five hundred ultra violet ratings and they have different variations of colors buyers can choose from. It has more resistance to warping too.

These blinds are available in both vertical and horizontal form. The horizontal form is similar with the style of an old fashioned Venetian blind in which it can be attached easily, directly to the window frame. Moreover, they can be installed either outside or inside the window frame. While the vertical form needs to be hanged through a rod which is similar with a curtain. It is appropriate to use the vertical wood blind faux for a French window and court doors. If you are interested to purchase one, be sure that you give the specific measurements of the windows so that the blinds would not look awkward when installed.

Window Blinds Faux is an excellent choice to use especially in places with high and low temperatures. It is also a great decision to choose these type of blinds in places where it is always moist because they do not fade and warp easily unlike the real wood. It is very useful for any type of structure because it blocks the amount of light that is entering. In a medical aspect, it can also be a simple way to help a person with skin cancer, because it lessens the direct exposure from the sun’s rays. These blinds can also aid in keeping the house from extreme cold during winter. This product is usually used for temperature regulation and protection on the vision from the outside. Nonetheless, this product is very convenient and easy on the pocket.

It is likely advantageous to buy window blinds faux straight from the window treatment store and major home décor centers, like Home Depot. Perhaps you can actually see the design and touch the window treatment for yourself rather than just ordering one online. Some of the products that can be purchased online have a different look from the screen and in personal. Although window treatment stores do not always offer you the cheap price that you want but you can likely catch sale price tags. You just need to be a wise buyer. But before you head on to the stores and purchase one, make sure you have the exact measurement of your windows at home. Remember to purchase from a reputable brand. So your money would not got to waste.

Find the right window treatment that defines and complements the style of your home or your office. You can simply surf online, read home magazines or just visit your local store for inspiration. Whether you choose the real wood blinds or wood blinds faux, all depends upon your taste of style.

When summer is up, the curtains are either down are drawn. In the past there were curtains of various sizes, colors and styles that could be hung in homes and offices, customarily these curtains had hooks attached to their edge on one side and entire window sill will be lines with rollers so they can slide and spread the curtain according to the width of the windows. Of course there were the usual problems of the rollers getting stuck or the hooks getting out of their places. But now with a simple pulling of a thread, the solar shades can be rolled up and down and the person has the option to cover up the window either full of semi.

History does not know who is the original creator/inventor of these solar shades but they have come to be known about a thousand years ago, when people use to hang a large cloth on their windows and on entrances to maintain privacy and it was usually found in poor peoples’ homes. The simple bamboo and the wooden shades that could be rolled mostly came from south Asia, like in subcontinent and in Japan who instead of doors use to hang sheets on their entrance or in special rooms to separate male and females quarters. The beads hanging were very popular in the last 30 years.

Solar Shades have now become the norm of every household item and they are quickly replacing curtains, because they are easy to handle and are affordable. Solar shades can be called with other names such as roll up shades and roller blinds. These shades are not typically of vinyl or made from cloth material, they are available in bamboo, other wooden woven products, Vinyl Coated Fiberglass, Polyester and the paper screen material.

Even though the usage purpose is to control the intensity and allowance of light in the room, it can be used to stop insects from coming in, or to completely block out the light. Some are semi transparent, transparent and completely opaque. They are available in all sorts of colors, styles and designs and the holder usually come with exquisite and likeable design to make your room more artistic, these solar shades can have a simple edge or have a lacy design, they can even have a logo of your favorite car, animal picture, trees, flowers or a cartoon character.

Solar Shades are now considered a vital part of interior designing and artistic people choose their solar shades according to color of their room. Mostly it is cream white or just ordinary white if the room is plain, but whitish brown, light shades of pink, blue, red, green, violet etc are also considered.

There is a very long list of solar shades, but the most common are Solar, Paper, Privacy and Blackout Screens; Woven wood, insect mesh, Pleated or Cellular Shades and Roman Window Shades. Nowadays people like the Roman Shades.

Black out Shades is most highly preferred by people who are either a light sleeper or who work at night shifts and broad sunlight is a disturbance to them. They are available in any color and design. It is made with thick polyester fiber, acrylic, coating, vinyl and a reflective surface to completely reflect the sunlight back.

Solar Shades are known to be most effective and have a long life and the upside, can be cleaned easily. With reflecting out light they even reflect heat so a greenhouse effect does not occur. UV rays are also reflected back.

Privacy screens are made to be opaque so nothing can be seen by an outsider. It is preferable to apply it in a room which is used mostly at nighttime. Its material consists of cotton, strong fiberglass and the common polyester.

Insect Mesh may not be strong barrier against light but they can stop any insect from entering into a person’s territory.

People loving nature would love to apply wooden woven shades in their homes. The bamboo is liked by many people. They are environment friendly and they can control light at moderate levels.

Solar shades are cost effective, easy to set up and serves the task of keeping a cool shade perfectly and thus are much preferred over other forms of shades.

Today we are testing the Eclipse Faux Wood Shutters. They are made of a hollow, reinforced (cellular interior) PVC vinyl. The material is Greengard certified and produces no emissions. It comes in four colors and three louver sizes of 2 1/2″, 3 1/2″ and 4 1/2″. It has 5 different frame styles and several popular operation options with the most notable being the hidden tilt bar.

Eclipse claims:

Energy Efficiency

Fire Resistant

Easy to Clean

Waterproof

Hard, strong material

Light

25 Year Warranty

Super Quick Production

What we found:

Energy Efficiency- We don’t know if the cell construction for the interior has as much to do with the energy efficiency as the thickness which is the same as most plantation shutters. The Eclipse is extremely energy efficient in the closed position.

These are extremely easy to clean. Water on does most jobs. We didn’t test for harder stuff like permanent marker.

Waterproof- Yes it is vinyl and will work even in direct water.

Hard & strong material. We can’t break this and it takes non normal effort to scratch the material.

Light- You can tell that it is hollow by the weight. It’s arguable if that is an advantage or not.

Super quick production- Normal production is 7 working days

Installation is easy. Frames come broken down and need to be assembled with snap in corner keys. The install kit also includes small screws and a “L” bracket to tighten them together but we did not need to use them. The drill holes and hinges come assembled. All we needed to do was put the frame together with the snap corner keys, put it in the opening being sure it is square. Drill the included screws into the pre-drilled holes while making sure the frame is still squared and level. Once the frame is installed. Put the panel in from left to right in the order that they are numbered. That’s it!

Operation. Panels are very light and easy to open. Tilt bar seems tight yet smooth to move. Closure is tight. We could not produce any sagging due to weight.

Disadvantages. We really could not find much except it does look a little like plastic and the lightness makes the shutter feel it isn’t as strong as it actually is. Two 6 year old kids had no problems opening and closing the panels or tilting the louvers.

Advantages. Very affordable for a plantation shutter at around $15-$16 per foot. It is almost impossible to break and it is waterproof. If parts break, it looks easily replaceable without much work.

Conclusion: This is a nice, heavy-duty and affordable shutter. What are your experiences with this? Advantages and disadvantages?

Blinds And Curtains: Alike But Different

Sunlight is really good to see at home, but too much of it isn’t. Good thing there are curtains that keep those unwanted rays.

But curtains sometimes tend to get broken easily with all the possible dangers in the house: stains, scissors, shears, open wires, and even kids. Curtains also have the disadvantage of having high maintenance. Since dust and dirt on curtains can’t be cleaned by the usual feather dusters, nor sucked by vacuum cleaners simply, cleaning curtains entail a cumbersome method of taking them off the curtain rod and washed by bulky washing machines. This is not at all what you have in mind in maintaining your home fixtures and decors.

It’s good then that blinds were created. They’re sturdy, neat, easy-to-use and to maintain, and after all serves the same purpose as that of curtains.

Just as curtains come in different fabrics, blinds could also be in different form and material: they could be plastic, paper, and or wood: bringing you a variety of options to choose from. But what stands out among the three is wood.

Wooden blinds give a homey and contemporary feel that plastic and vinyl don’t emit. Here’s a complete run down of the pros and cons of the three, and a complete proof why wood remains to be the best option:

Plastic Blinds
Pros:
• Fairly sturdy
• Very affordable
• An accent for modernized homes
Cons:
• Fragile (depending on the quality and thickness of plastic used)
• Not easy-to-maintain (dusts sticks to it strongly especially when the atmosphere is humid)

Paper Blinds
Pros:
• A beautiful and eye-catching accent for Asian-inspired homes
• Permits proper ventilation
• Fairly affordable
Cons:
• Not at all sturdy
• Very delicate
• Not easy-to-maintain

Wooden Blinds
Pros:
• Highly sturdy
• Accents almost any room at all (contemporary and modernized)
• Creates a homey feel
• Easy-to-maintain (dusts don’t stick strongly to the surface)
• Permits fair ventilation
• Long-term use
Cons:
• Tend to be expensive

You see what I mean now? Wood is just the best option.

The Increasing Demand

With the stark rustic and warm touch wooden blinds offer just about every room, it is plain to see why it became a popular option for not only American households, but also, all over the world. The fact that it’s durable and can provide quality insulation also contribute to this fad.

Warehouses and decoration stores are two of the best places to choose your own blinds. The internet could also be a means of looking for one that would fit your house well. This even provides you with round-the-globe options.

Just as a wooden blind has proliferated the modern scene, unlimited discounts also flooded the entire market. You can now feel happy of purchasing one with not minding too much about your wallet. Anyways, buying one that could last a lifetime is absolutely worth every penny.

Wood You Please

Wooden blinds are not uncommon to see nowadays especially in homes which also have the same basic material. These blinds are so manageable that people don’t even mind them to be placed in almost any window they have. Plus! this type of blinds easily brings out a cozy feel to the house, and accentuates every angle of any window, be it wooden, metal, or glass.

The difference in a wooden blind create is really surprising. They are quite pleasing to the eyes when it comes to eclectic designs. Light draperies are a good match for having wooden blinds: the two just simply complement each other both in design and in use. This even makes the room sophisticated, and it even keeps the room cool in the summer season.

Reasons Why Wood Deserves To be On Top

If you don’t have a wooden blind for your house yet, and you still are in doubt of getting one, then you should at least take note of the following upbeats to this type of blind/decor:

• Easy to maintain
• Accentuates the room
• Protects you from too much sunlight
• Sturdy and flat as compared to curtains and other blind materials
• Long-term benefits and use
• Brings the element of nature

Bring in some wooden blinds to your house today, and start feeling the difference it makes!

Panel-type folding doors are ideal for use in place of curtains or blinds as a covering for sliding glass doors. The attractive wood shades can complement every style of room decor, and the ability to mount them inside or outside doorframes enables them to work on virtually any door in the home. Valances can be purchased to add a finishing touch, with a crown valance being especially appealing for its ability to bring out the colors and textures of the doors, rather than blending into the door assembly.

Woven wood sliding doors add the sophisticated and elegant touch of real wood, which can create a warm and inviting atmosphere in any room of the home. Both light and dark colors are available, with various weaves that can be chosen to add texture and definition. The addition of paints and dyes create even more unique and varied patterns, with selections such as whitewash or teawash offering subtle color variations across the length and width of the door. Patterns that are more dramatic such as Rustic Bamboo, Rustic Makake, and Rustic Tortoise combine light and dark colors to create a range of interesting and eye-catching color shifts, often resembling the color shifts that are found naturally in the outdoors.

There are 23 wood patterns to choose from, with options including both solid and textured weaves, as well as patterns that resemble the more traditional look of slat blinds. An additional 16 color options are available for the banding used to prevent fraying around the edges, with fabric backing available in 6 color choices to provide an additional measure of privacy when the doors are closed. The ability to mix and match the doors, banding, and backing enables color and pattern combinations to be selected to suit personal preferences, as well as to match colors both inside and outside the home.

Valances can be added for the perfect finishing touch, with the 3-1/2 inch crown valance providing an especially complementary look when used with woven wood sliding doors. The patterns of the valances run horizontally, which provided an appealing contrast to the vertical patterns that run through the doors. The complementary colors and varied patterns add a rustic charm that still provides an elegant and finished look to the folding doors, while maintaining an appearance that is natural, rather than overwhelming. One of the best features of the crown valances is that they do not have to be purchased at the same time as the doors, as achieving a perfect color match is not necessary.

Woven wood sliding doors can be purchased in heights that range from 12″ to 96″, with widths available from 24″ to 144″. Valances can be cut to the same width as the doors, although if mounting outside the framing is preferred, they will be cut 1″ wider than specified in the order. It should also be noted that valances ordered in widths longer than 96″ would be created in 2 pieces, rather than cut as a single piece valance.

Folding doors are an attractive alternative to typical curtains and blinds when it comes to coverings for sliding glass doors. The warm wood patterns and textures of woven wood sliding doors work well in any type of room decor, and both light and dark colors are available to complement any style of home furnishing. Safety is also ensured, as the folding doors are made to operate by hand, thus eliminating the cords that can be dangerous to both children and pets. Crown valances add a warm and elegant finishing touch, with the colors and patterns designed to complement the folding doors, rather than blend in through a perfect color match. Color samples of the doors, banding, backing, and valances are available free of charge to make it easy to find the ideal combination, and the prices for purchase are often less than half of the suggested retail. An added benefit is that standard shipping is free. The attractive appearance of woven wood sliding doors makes them an appealing upgrade from traditional curtains and blinds, and the low cost offers an easy way to add warmth and charm while staying on a budget.

Wood can be expensive, however, with prices varying according to both retailer and materials. Faux wood is an economical alternative to wooden blinds, with an added benefit of easy care, making faux wood a popular budget-friendly choice.

One of the key features that make wooden blinds an attractive home addition is the fact that they can work in any room, and with any decor. Wood has the unique ability to never look out of place regardless of the decorating style, and it enhances the appearance of retro, traditional, and contemporary themes. Wooden blinds also offer durability, with hardwoods such as oak and maple often used to ensure the products will last. Bamboo is another popular wood choice, as this all-natural material adds resistance to both moisture and mildew to its overall durability.

The range of shades and finishes adds to the versatility of wooden blinds, as wood can be both stained and painted. Stained blinds are the most commonly chosen option, with finishes including a variety of light and dark oaks, as well as chestnut, maple, cherry, and walnut. Wood also provides an easily painted surface, allowing colors that encompass virtually any hue. However, white, ivory, and eggshell are the most commonly chosen painted blinds. The disadvantage to wooden blinds is often the cost, as solid wood is inevitably more expensive than synthetic materials.

Faux wood is an option for those who want the look of wood, but may be faced with budget concerns. Faux wood is often made of composite wood or vinyl, although it offers the look of real wood. Faux wood also has the advantage of being less prone to splitting, fading, and cracking, making it ideal for rooms in which humidity is an issue. An added benefit is that faux wood tends to be more scratch-resistant than real wood, making it a suitable in homes that have small children or pets.

The care of faux wood is another feature that makes it a practical alternative to real wooden blinds, as cleaning usually requires no more than simple dusting. For blinds that are heavily soiled, a mild detergent and a soft cloth can be used, without the risk of moisture damage that can occur with real wood. Submerging faux wood blinds is not recommended, however, as this can damage the hardware and cause the cords to deteriorate. A helpful cleaning tip for faux wood blinds is to make the last step of cleaning a gentle rubbing of the slats with a dryer sheet, as this will both repel dust and reduce the amount of static electricity.

The cost of faux wood is often the deciding factor when it comes to choosing wooden blinds, as faux wood comes with a lower price tag. In fact, the cost of faux wood can be as much as 15-25% less than the price of real wood. Both faux and real wooden blinds are available at most home and department stores, as well as from a number of online retailers, and shopping around is recommended to find the largest selection in terms of products and prices. The Internet can be especially useful as a means of comparison, as selection will not be limited to the local area.

Wooden blinds are an attractive addition to home decoration, and they have the versatility of being suitable for use in any room, regardless of decorating style. Wood grains are the most popular option when it comes to finishes, with shades that include light and dark oak, maple, and walnut, as well as cherry and pecan. Wood also allows a wider variety in terms of painted blinds, with both soft and bold colors available, although shades of white are the most commonly chosen colors. Faux wood is an affordable alternative to real wood, as this material has the appearance of true wood, but with a price tag that is often 15-25% less. The easy care of faux wood increases its appeal, as even soiled blinds can be safely cleaned with a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Faux wood is also will not fade, crack, peel, or split, increasing the durability of the material. Both faux and real wooden blinds are widely available in retail stores and online, and shopping around is recommended to find the largest selection at the lowest price. Wood is one of the few materials that never looks out of place, and the addition of wooden blinds can increase warmth and appeal of every room in the home.

Nature loving people opt for many natural things like indoor plants, eco friendly products and the exceptional woven shades. The reason is simple for their popularity; it is economical and environment friendly and can control the light intensity and heat as well. Woven shades are made of natural materials like bamboo, thin wooden planks, straws, grass, jutes, rattan, reeds and matchsticks which are later woven together to form a large sheet. Woven shades are included in handicraft products. Most people think it is Roman style, true but Romans were not the first, Asia had also played a part in woven shades styles. Usually woven shades were used in Japan, either to cover an entrance or to separate private rooms of males and females. Poor people in the absence of the door will use a large bamboo or a reed shade to place it as a “door” to their house. Depending on the thickness of the shade, they can be completely opaque, semi-transparent or translucent.

Psychology of today says that if you have nature inside your house then you can have positive energy running inside you and you can feel happy. Feng Shui is a Chinese Myth of how to arrange you office or your house, and according to it, Feng Shui prefers nature inside. Most people follow this concept to ease their nerves, and this is where natural woven shades step in. Instead of staring at synthetic made, they can feel the nature.

Woven Shades are available in various colors, but the most common is earthly brown, green, white, grey and black. People choose these shades because it is friendly to the eyes, gives a natural feeling and don’t have to worry about chemicals if they get washed up by rain. They are easy to handle, durable, and give a soothing environment and the plus side is they are recyclable. The shades can be pulled from top to bottom and vice versa. The woven shades are also available as woven roller shades. Usually a thread is used to pull the shade up or down.

Rattan, it is a type of a wicker, and gives a distinctive grain look, is popular too but comes in second to the bamboo shades. Rattan is typically used in furniture making, so if anyone wants to complete a rattan furniture set, the rattan shades are a plus. Rattan is a plant found commonly in Africa and Asia, and as compared to bamboo have really strong stems so they can be considered as durable shades. They are also available in many colors.

The next in line is the bamboo shades, which are also used as furniture; they are comparably more eco friendly and are dirt resistant, opaque, and good for the environment. Bamboo is a native plant of Asia; they are sturdy and have been used for a long time as a cutlery. Bamboo shades are available in variety of sizes and colors; the most demanding color is black and white.

Reed shades give a more of a tropical paradise look. Reed plants are grown near the marshes and have long sturdy stems. Their typical color unlike bamboo is brown and if anyone wants to have a shiny looking woven shades, reeds is the best choice.

Woven shades made form grass are a great choice if anyone wants to bring their greenery right inside their house. They are available in the custom color of white and brown. This shade can survive any weather and keep the heat out during the summers.

Roman Woven shades are made in any material except that they are made in roman style. Jute woven shades are also available in the market but their demand is less.

One thing that must be kept in mind, most of the woven shades are not natural but are synthetic made, because some plants tend to rot away after some years and synthetic keeps them long-lasting.

Woven shades are easy to clean, but if any damage occurs to it, it is better to contact the store in case because such shades are delicate and professional help. In case of a small damage like edges are rubbing off, they can be sewed up, or if they get stuck, it is better to try open the stuck shade with care.

However, these wooden shutters actually date back to the time of the Romans. Wooden plantation shutters are making a comeback and are installed in many modern homes and apartments.

Plantation shutters can be made from genuine hardwood or from faux wood (aka composite wood). Many homeowners prefer to buy genuine hardwood shutters. These are more aesthetic in many ways, although they are more expensive. However, well made faux wood plantation shutters can also be an aesthetic option. Furthermore, faux wood plantation shutters are often more durable than their genuine hardwood counterparts. Hardwood shutters will warp and get ruined in humid weather, or if they get wet. Faux wood shutters, on the other hand, will hold up well no matter what the weather is like. These shutters can be installed for any room of the house, the kitchen and bathroom included.

Plantation shutters have several advantages over curtains. While there are many cheap curtains for sale at local supermarkets and over the internet, most cheap curtains look quite tacky. Expensive curtains can be quite good looking, but even these will fade over time due to exposure to the sun. Plantation shutters, on the other hand, will outlast curtains many times over. It is cheaper to buy good quality plantation shutters than it is to buy good quality curtains.

It is also a lot easier to clean plantation shutters than it is to clean curtains. Curtains have to be taken down, washed, dried and then hung up again. This can be quite tedious and most people have better things to do with their time. Plantation shutters, on the other hand, are very easy to clean. If the plantation shutters are made from genuine hardwood, then one should never clean them with a wet rag or cloth. Instead, it is better to use a vacuum cleaner and gently vacuum the shutters every so often. It is also a good idea to avoid getting faux wood plantation shutters overly wet, although these shutters can be wiped with a damp cloth as the need arises.

Plantation shutters also afford a homeowner greater privacy. These shutters are ideal for a bedroom as they will block out all natural light, thus allowing one to sleep in on the weekends or holidays. While there are some black out curtains that do the same thing, such curtains are often prohibitively expensive.

When buying plantation shutters for the home, it is important to purchase these in the right color. If the home is made from wood, then the shutters should be made in the same color as the exterior of the home. If the shutters are to be installed inside, then they should match well with the wooden floor and/or any other wooden furniture in the room. It is also important to measure the windows properly. Double checking the measurements can save one the time and hassle of having to return shutters that were purchased in the wrong size.

Plantation shutters are not only practical but aesthetic. These plantation shutters come in many styles and colors. In many cases, a homeowner may install these shutters along with sheer curtains. The aesthetic effect of having plantation shutters along with sheer curtains is quite nice. Having a thin curtain installed also provides a homeowner with the option of having some privacy without having to block out all natural light from outside.

Plantation shutters are a good option for most any home. They can be installed in the interior or exterior of the home. These shutters come in many colors and styles and can be made from hardwood or faux wood. A person should choose a material, color and style of shutters that is right for the home. One can then buy these shutters either at a local hardware store or via an internet retailer. Installing the shutters is a DIY job that most any homeowner can handle. The shutters will last a long time as long as they are properly cared for and cleaned. All in all, shutters are a good investment. They are aesthetic, durable, practical and good value for the money.

This includes choosing the right kind of window treatments as well. Whether you are looking for French country, old English, modern, traditional and something more eclectic, window treatments can work together with the other design elements in a room to enhance the overall decor and character one is trying to achieve.

Just like there are numerous different types of designs or decors one can choose, there will be numerous options for the various types of furnishings as well, whether it is sofas, tables, chairs or other items like lamps, mirrors and wall hangings. The choices and styles are unlimited, but putting together the right pieces will help create a beautiful and well-designed area. The same is true when picking out window treatments. Depending on the overall design theme of the room, there will be a number of different options that can work well.

Many people love the look of wood blinds and find that they can add a very warm and inviting look to a home, especially in a traditional or casual decor. Wood blinds are available in a wide range of different wood grains and color variations; in fact, there are even simulated wood blinds that make an excellent choice for anyone living in a humid environment or for use in a bathroom or other humid location in the home. Typically wood blinds are very durable; however, they can begin to mildew, rot or warp if they are exposed to high humidity. Wood needs to remain dry for it to keep its wonderfully lustrous look, but too much sun exposure can also be damaging. Conditions where wood is repeatedly subjected to high heat can cause it to dry out and crack. While these are two extremes and most people will find wood to be a great choice for their blinds, the simulated wood blinds are often the preferred choice by those wishing to have a no-fuss and maintenance free material.

Wood blinds as well as the simulated models require very little maintenance. In fact, a dusting is usually all that is required. There are special dusters that can be purchased for this purpose, or you can use the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to keep them clean. If there is ever any dirt or grime, simply wipe clean with a damp cloth. If you have wood blinds and you notice any condensation forming on them, be sure to dry them thoroughly to avoid any damage. Adjusting the humidity in the room may be necessary, even if it means running a dehumidifier to remove any excess moisture in the room.

There are certainly many other options to choose from when looking for the ideal window treatments, but regardless of which type of blinds you choose, it will be extremely important that you measure each window accurately. This is especially important for anyone who is ordering custom made window treatments. Shades and blinds that are made to order can be beautiful when complete; however, if they are not the right size for the window or door, they will do nothing to enhance the look of a room. Window treatments that are the wrong size will certainly detract from the beautiful and well thought out design you are trying to create. Double check your measurements before you order and you will avoid any unexpected surprises.

There are many home improvement stores, department stores and other specialty shops that provide a wide selection of window treatments. Even online retailers can be a great place to find the perfect solution to your decorating needs. Keep in mind the online retailers can oftentimes be less expensive than their more traditional brick and mortar counterparts, but you will want to factor in any extra charges that may apply for shipping and handling. What appears to be a great value can quickly become very expensive if there are exorbitant shipping charges added to your purchase. You might also want to do a little research and find out if the retailer you are planning on ordering from has a good reputation and a track record of delivering on time and as promised.
