Fans of blinds as window coverings have two basic choices: vertical or horizontal. Each type has its proponents, but both come in a wide variety of fabrics and styles and work well as an economic and attractive choice for covering windows or sliding doors.
Horizontal blinds give any room a classic look, and the many styles available now look smart and luxurious. The slats can be fabric, vinyl, or even wood. They control easily and can be positioned to let in the perfect amount of sunlight. People with cats may prefer them since they can keep the blinds out of a curious animal's reach. On the other hand, pets find it difficult to navigate around them when they are down.
Vertical blinds are most frequently associated with sliding glass doors and large openings. They are convenient and can be easily coordinated to a room's color scheme. They also are available in a variety of fabrics, vinyl, and woods. These types of blinds are easily manipulated to make entering and leaving a room simple. Pets can slide through the slats, but pets and children do like to play with them.
Some people feel that the vertical blinds are best used only on sliding doors and find them outdated for use on windows. Although the trend is toward horizontal blinds for most windows, there is not a "correct" choice. Both types are reasonably easy to clean. A damp cloth will rid most blinds of accumulated grime. Vertical blinds may also be easily vacuumed, an option that isn't as effective on horizontal blinds.
If the buyer invests in a high quality blind, either vertical or horizontal ones will last for years while providing privacy, light control, and, in most cases, effective insulation. The prices for both types range from very inexpensive for basic blinds to much more money for custom made versions. Blinds are actually a good choice for renters and homeowners living in just about any type of home.
As with most home furnishings, the choice of blinds comes down to personal taste. Though currently, horizontal blinds are probably more popular, vertical blinds can still be an attractive addition, and not just for sliding doors, but for all types of windows as well. Some folks may choose to mix the types to match the way the windows open. More daring types may blend horizontal and vertical for a more individualized look. Either type of blind makes a smart attractive investment.
