Window Shutters and Interior Window Shutters
Plantation Window Shutters are by far the most common shutters for today's home.
They have the traditional 2 1/2" or 3 1/2" louver slat with a nice trim to
surround your window opening. The Plantation Shutter look is the kind
found in Southern homes from Texas to the Carolinas.
Traditional Plantation Window Shutters
These
are the most popular style of window shutters. They have a frame that
surrounds the window. They have panels that act like doors. The most
popular panel configurations are the single panel which is one door. It
can have a left or right hinge. The second type of configuration is the
two panel system. It is basically two door that meet in the middle and
open from the center into the room. The third most popular type is the
four panel which is four doors that are hinged together and open up like an
accordion into the room. Most of these three options are dependent on the
width of your window. For your height, you might be in need of a divider
rail. That basically is a piece of horizontal material that separates the
panel (door). It allows you to open the louver on the top and on the
bottom. The main purpose of the divider rail is to provide stability to
the panel (door).
Cafe Style Window Shutters
Cafe style window shutters are the same as above but the panels or doors are
smaller than the frame. The frame will goes around the entire window but
the panels (doors) might only go half way up or at any location you desire.
This allows you a total view of the opening on top while maintain privacy at the
bottom. These are very popular in kitchens and dining areas or in
applications where you might want to put an over treatment on the top half of
the window shutter. Ordering the cafe style shutter is not available online.
You must place it by phone or email. We will need to know the measurement
of your entire window opening and the measurement of the height of the panels
(where you want them top go up to).
Double Hung Window Shutters
Double hung window shutters are very similar to the standard plantation shutter.
The main different is with the standard shutter, you open the entire panel
(door) regardless if you have a divider rail or not. With the double hung,
you can open the top of the shutter (or the bottom) while leaving the other
closed. In essence, for a single panel shutters, you really have two
panels (one on the top, and one on the bottom) etc. The are popular for
higher windows with a lot of space surround it. You loose much of the view
with these and there is more stress on the hinges. We do not recommend
this type of shutter with a four or more panel configuration. It works
best with a two panel or single panel application. You must order this
shutter by phone or via email.
These are the three most popular window shutters applications. They really
do cover most types of preferences. Pricing is available online or by
