Vinyl Shutters by Timber and ComfortexThere are basically two types of vinyl shutters on the market today. The first is a straight faux wood vinyl shutter and the second is a composite (wood and vinyl mix). Both have their advantages and disadvantages Faux Wood Vinyl Shutters (Click here for colors and pricing) Composite Vinyl Shutters (Click here for colors and pricing) Composite (wood and PVC mix) vinyl shutters are relatively new on the market. There are two types of this product as well. Both with their advantages and disadvantages. The first type of composite shutter is the solid composite. If you cut the louver in half, it is the same material throughout. It is heavier that the other type and more expensive. They are excellent for very large windows and the specification are the best in the industry. We do offer these at our Colorado location but do not provide this online due to wacky shipping costs. The second type of composite vinyl shutter is the wood and PVC mix with a poly coating on top. The material is not the same though out and the size limitations are more restricted. They are much heavier that the straight PVC shutters but look much more like real wood without the shiny, plastic effect. Shades Shutters Blinds sells the Comfortex Woodwinds composite shutter. It is made in America by a Hunter Douglas owned company. The straight faux wood vinyl shutters and the composite (wood and PVC mix) are the most affordable and popular plantation shutters on the market today. They handle water, discoloration and warpage. There are tons of colors coming in the future but you are limited on colors at this point. |

Faux wood vinyl shutters are made from 100% Vinyl or PVC. They were the first alternative wood shutter to enter the
market. There are two types of solid vinyl shutters. The first is the foam filled shutter. It is solid, heavy and thin. The advantages of this shutters is that it gives you a nice look and is extremely affordable. It
is the most inexpensive shutter on the market today. The disadvantages are that it is heavy, parts are not replaceable, it can discolor and the largest disadvantage is that it is softer that the hollow vinyl shutter. It scratches very
easily and that is why Shades Shutters Blinds does not provide this product. Scratching and dinging is not covered under warranty and that is by far the most common thing to happen to the foam vinyl shutter. The second most popular type
of solid vinyl shutter is the hollow based vinyl shutter. It really isn't hollow but each louver have an air filled honeycomb design in the middle. It is excellent for energy efficiency and lightness. Shades Shutters Blinds
sells the Hunter Douglas Palm Beach Shutter at our store in Colorado and the VinylBilt Shutter online which is made by a Hunter Douglas owned company.
It has a lifetime warranty against discoloration, warpage and most important, it is a very tough vinyl that doesn't scratch easily. All of the parts are replaceable without having to take the vinyl shutter down. Both the foam filled
and the hollow PVC shutter are great for high moister areas and both are the least expensive of the plantation shutters.
