Horizontal blinds are basically any blind that is horizontal instead of vertical. Most people associate the horizontal blind with the tilt slats and can also go up and down. The three main types of horizontal blinds on the market

Wood horizontal blinds are made of one
hundred percent real wood. The most popular wood on the market is the basswood which is a North American hardwood that takes an excellent stain. The second most popular type of wood used is the foreign ramin wood which is a fast growing
hardwood from Asia. The ramin wood works well for stains but does not hold moisture as good as the basswood so warpage is more common. The final type of horizontal window blinds wood used is genuine wood. If you want oak, it is
oak. If you want cherry, it is cherry. The color is much more true verses the stained basswood and ramin wood but the price is usually prohibitive. Also, some of those woods do not hold up as well in the blind form
and warpage can be an issue. Slat
sizes of the wood horizontal blind can range from one inch to three inches with the two inch slat being the most popular. The wider the slat, the better the view but the closure is not as tight. The smaller slats like the one inch or one and five-eights
inch tend to have more warpage problems because of the size. Options that are provided with the real wood blinds include fabric tapes, no holes or de-light feature, motorization, two on one headrails and three on one headrails. Another popular
option is the cord tilt instead of the old wand tilt. The cord tilt closes the blinds tighter and is less likely to break.
Faux Wood (PVC) horizontal blinds are made of one hundred percent plastics or plastic and wood mixtures called composites. Straight faux woods are great for pricing but
are around fifteen percent heavier than the composite faux
woods. The advantage of faux wood blinds is the price, quickness of delivery, and the many options available. Faux wood blinds are the second most popular of the horizontal blind market. Sizes come in two inch, two and one half inch and the
three inch slat sizes. Faux wood horizontal blinds are known for their durability, lack of warpage and best of all, quick shipping. Options available include fabric tapes, no holes and motorization. You may still choose from the cord tilt
or wand tilt options. Also, relatively new on the market is the cut down faux wood horizontal blind. The headrails and slats are pre made and cut to the nearest one eighth of an inch.
Advantages are that they typically have the same warranty as the other faux woods. The disadvantages of the pre cut blinds are size limitations and
no options are provided.
Metal horizontal
blinds are the most popular window coverings on the market. They are known for their durability, looks, and most of all, price. It is hard to find a business that does not have metal
blinds. There are fifty to one hundred colors to choose
from. Metals are determined by three things. First is the gauge, second is the slat size and lastly is the options. We provide two types of gauges. First is the six gauge slat and the second is the eight gauge slat. The
main difference is the thickness of the slat. The eight gauge slat is around twenty five percent thicker than the six gauge and tends to hold up better in well traveled areas where bending of the slat could be an issue. There are three
types of slat sizes available with the metal horizontal blind. The first is the half inch slat, the two inch slat and the immensely popular one inch
and the third is the 2" metal venetian blind. Options include motorization, fancy headrails, routless feature and bounce back features
which allows higher pressure to be applied to the blind without bending.
