Ikea Canada recalls 200,000 roman shades.

November 20th, 2008

slice_22 Ikea Canada recalls 200,000 roman shades.Check out this article: http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2008/11/20/ikea-recall.html. I posted about this before and one child actually DIES every two weeks because they get caught up in the cords of the most popular blinds. Parents for Window Blinds Safety is a non profit organization that puts pressure on blind manufactures to make the blinds more child friendly. All of Shades Shutters Blinds products SHOULD come with the proper cord cleats and tie downs to make child safety the most important factor if you have young kids. Sometimes our factory will make a mistake and not include those. If they forget to, DO NOT hang the blind until we get the parts to you. The cordless options that are out there have greatly improved over the years and are highly recommended if you have kiddos living or coming into you home. They are not that much more expensive (I have these at my house with a 2 1/2 year old), are easier to use (even for adults) and takes the risk factor away. ANY kind of cord that hangs can be a potential threat so please keep that in mind when ordering.

Credit Upon Inspection

November 19th, 2008

Sometimes a blind will show up damaged or broken. Other times a blind might break. Most of the time we will issue a call tag for a return or the factory will just remake the blind with no questions asked. Sometimes however, the factory might want the old blind back for a “credit upon inspection”. When this occurs, we totally understand if you want to keep the old blind up until the new one arrives to keep your privacy, use the new box to box the old one etc. That is fine by us. However, you HAVE to call us once the new blind arrives so we can send the old one back. Unfortunately, we have had a few instances where the customer has thrown out the old blind when the new one arrives and did not contact us. Be aware that we will bill your credit card for the new blind if the old one is not shipped back. This is only for a few instances. From the very beginning of this process, we will tell you that the old blind has to be returned or not. If so, please do not trash the old one. We end up eating the cost when we could have sent it back free of charge. Thanks for your understanding. It is just the rules of our suppliers and we have to honor that.

This applies for all horizontal products (wood, fauxs and metals). Do you have a large window where it is just to wide to put a single blind? This chart will show you how to measure for this and save the $75 shipping cost.
1. Measure the entire width of the opening to determine the inside deminsion valance width. Deduct 1/8″ to determine the net valance size to be ordered.
2. Measure blinds # 1 from (left) inside window openings to the center of the mullion. Add 1/4″ to determine the inside mount size to be ordered.
3. Measure blind # 2 from the center of the mullion to the center of the mullion. Add 1/4″ to determine the inside mount blind size to be ordered.
4. Measure blind # from the center of mullion to indise window opening (right). Add 1/4″ to determine the inside mount size to be ordered.

Seeing is believing

September 22nd, 2008
scan Seeing is believing

I got this information from a Comfortex flier but unfortunately I couldn’t find a digital photo of this so I scanned it. Still gets the point across I guess. All information comes from the flier. Even houses which appear to be well insulated may not be as energy efficient as one may think. This house was photographed during the winter using thermal photography, a process which exposes higher temperature zones as indicated by the color transitions. You will notice that the areas around the windows are particularly “hot”, proving that a significant amount of interior heat is escaping from these portions of the house.

The Insulator

September 16th, 2008

SymphonyBOCinnamonopenphoto2 The Insulator
This info comes from Comfortex ™. Are you serious about saving energy? You can with Symphony ™ Blackout Cellular Shades. 15 popular colors to choose from. Made of a double, non woven polyester honeycomb fabric with integrated foil technology. This product has a draft-blocking structure which makes rooms more comfortable all year long, moderating winter chills as well as the relentless summer heat. Total blackout material which is great for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms. A limited lifetime warranty comes with the Symphony ™ blackout cells. Options available include: cordless, top down-bottom up, continuous cord loop. Great product for the price. Check out the video here for more information.

Hurricane Ike

September 13th, 2008

Please put your prayers for the people of the Houston area. I am a native Texan, have friends there, family there, our Hunter Douglas supplier is there. It is a great city and the people couldn’t be better. God bless America.

CSV Code

September 10th, 2008

csv CSV Code
The CVS Code is that 3 digit number on the back of your credit card. Although not full proof, it is another form of security because technically, you need to have the card in possession in order to have that number. Shades Shutters Blinds hasn’t used this feature frankly because we only had one “incident” in eight years. But, two days ago, we got another one and this was a doozy. So, you will now need to have that code starting today or tomorrow in order to place an order. Also, we are going to be using Google checkout soon and it is required there as well. This will help people from ordering stuff off of your card.
